Patricia Prado-Olmos, VP of Community Engagement at CSUSM kicks off the event with Mayor Jim Desmond.
On Tuesday, February 13, Democracy in Action (DIA) was launched by CSUSM and the City of San Marcos at the local community center. This collaboration provides opportunities for CSUSM students to engage with their community while learning about city government.
City officials offer their expertise and students gather research and data for city projects that haven’t yet been addressed or completed.
At the DIA Launch, students had the opportunity to have one-to-one discussions with city officials to ask questions and have in-depth conversations.
Dr. Eliza Bigham’s HD497 class was in attendance and will be researching, gathering data and addressing projects at the San Marcos Senior Center. Dr. Sam Clarke’s Entrepreneurship class (also in attendance) will be investigating environmental projects within San Marcos and North San Diego County.
Bigham’s Human Development students attend DIA launch and will be working on the Senior Center project.
This program is hosted by Community Engagement at California State University San Marcos in partnership with the City of San Marcos.
