IMG_7198Congratulations to Tomas Simunovic who is awarded the
2018 CEHHS Outstanding Graduate!

Tomas has overcome a great deal in order to reach his goal of becoming a Special Education Teacher. Due to multiple medical issues and physical disability, Tomas has been through 73 surgeries and these surgeries continue for him. He overcame the difficulties he experienced and was inspired by special educators and other resources he connected with such as the Disability Support Services here at CSUSM. Tomas decided to follow his dream and support students like himself who needed special types of support.

“Tomas is thoughtful, passionate, reflective, engaged, and collaborative. He has been an exceptional student and always comes to every class prepared and connected with me between readings, assignments, lectures and coursework, showing an advanced understanding of the material,” says Dr. Jodi Robledo, Associate Professor the School of Education.

Tomas has shown tremendous growth during his coursework and clinical practice experiences and has developed skills in assessment, instructional planning, teaching, and reflection. He has been very receptive to feedback and is constantly seeking out new ways to improve his teaching and performance.

Tomas is a natural teacher. He quickly establishes rapport with students and staff and it is clear students both respect him and feel comfortable around him. He has a warm and friendly personality and has impressed numerous teachers and administrators at all of his Clinical Practice placements.”

“We could not think of a more deserving candidate than Tomas,” says Dean Janet Powell.
