Dr. Devan Romero, Associate Professor in the Kinesiology department is presented with the 2017-2018 Outstanding Faculty: Service Leadership Award.

This award seeks to recognize and reward faculty whose services to the college, campus, and/or the wider community contributes to the CSUSM’s classification as “a community-engaged institution.”  Service leadership is part of the university and the college’s mission in both teaching and outreach to the community

Dr. Romero has been a faculty member for the past seven years and during this time she directed the Kick Butts (that’s spelled b-u-t-t-s!) Off-Campus program. This program educates others about cigarette butts toxic waste and informs others about how tobacco affects the human body.  Because of these efforts, CSUSM is now a non-smoking campus.

Dr. Romero also partners with the American Lung Association and Mountain Shadows Outreach, a non-profit agency that supports the care of individuals that have intellectual differing abilities, and develops health education lessons at Rancho Buena Vista High School.   Her leadership and service support not only her own community but she also continues supporting, teaching and guiding our students.  Her work promotes health and wellness and contributes to the health of others.

Dr. Romero changes the lives of many by promoting health and wellness.

Congratulations to Dr. Romero for her outstanding service this year!
