This award seeks to recognize and reward faculty whose scholarship and/or creative activity contributes significantly to their fields. The awardee must conduct original or applied current research and/or other scholarly and creative activities within their fields. Faculty members are to either publish and advance knowledge in a discipline or they are to provide other significant contributions beyond the campus. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding faculty whose exceptional merit in scholarly and creative activity provides a worthy example to peers.

Dr. Wood is an Assistant Professor and joined the School of Education in Fall 2016. She conducts purposeful research and is engaged in creative activities that support the CSUSM and CEHHS mission.

Her research advances innovative, student-centered practices and promotes social justice and educational equity for all literacy learners.

She collaborates with researchers and educators and advances the field of contemporary literacy education in early childhood environments.  Her research focuses on new literacies, technology, maker-spaces, and design thinking in the classrooms.

“Dr. Wood has made significant contributions to the field of literacy education at local, regional, national and global levels. Her work is endless and we are proud to have her,” says Dean Powell.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Christiane Wood for being awarded the Outstanding Scholarship & Creative Activity for 2017-18.
